Author: Maggie Stiefvater
Genre: Young Adult
For years, Grace has watched the wolves in the woods behind her house. One yellow-eyed wolf—her wolf—is a chilling presence she can’t seem to live without.
Meanwhile, Sam has lived two lives: In winter, the frozen woods, the protection of the pack, and the silent company of a fearless girl. In summer, a few precious months of being human… until the cold makes him shift back again.
Now, Grace meets a yellow-eyed boy whose familiarity takes her breath away. It’s her wolf. It has to be. But as winter nears, Sam must fight to stay human—or risk losing himself, and Grace, forever.
I wanted to love this book. I thought the idea with the wolves in this book was so interesting. Same with the interaction between Grace and her being so drawn to the wolves and forest.
For some reason I really struggled to stay engaged, this book was extremely slow for me and while I thought the writing was well done it also felt like things were drawn out longer then they needed to be. The characters all had strong voices and points of view but I think there was so much focus on the characters that the plot really didn’t go far.
Honestly I’ve been sitting on this review for a while and I’m mostly putting it up because I’m hoping somebody can talk me into picking up the second since I already own it. As it stands I’ll likely donate them to clear some space.
Has anyone else read this book? What did you think? Should I continue?
