So Twilight, I made it twenty minutes into the first movie and had to turn it off, way too boring for me. Let’s see how I fared with the book…

Goodread Synopsis: About three things I was absolutely positive.

First, Edward was a vampire.

Second, there was a part of him—and I didn’t know how dominant that part might be—that thirsted for my blood.

And third, I was unconditionally and irrevocably in love with him.

In the first book of the Twilight Saga, internationally bestselling author Stephenie Meyer introduces Bella Swan and Edward Cullen, a pair of star-crossed lovers whose forbidden relationship ripens against the backdrop of small-town suspicion and a mysterious coven of vampires. This is a love story with bite.

My Thoughts: Shocked to say the least. Again I went into this book dreading the hours sure to be wasted on drivel. I couldn’t even watch the movies! But this was another great read! And I am excited to continue the story. Weird I know.
Bella is a klutz. I love it! She isn’t dark and mysterious or a cheerleader. She is a geek who loves to read, trips over nothing, and is seriously accident prone. It was a refreshing change for a teen protagonist. And she has absolutely no experience with boys! I really liked Bella overall, she was snarky, gave as good as she got from Edward, faints at the sight of blood, and contemplated maiming Tyler. This girl I like. My one issue is her pushing so hard to be turned.
Edward was also great! A gentleman, a scholar, and absolutely adorable! He likes teasing Bella, running, has no experience with girls, and is actually pretty goofy. The pictures always show him so dark, creepy, unapproachable but he is none of those things. His romance with Bella is also really sweet and innocent, just touching hands is such a rush for either of them.
Edward’s “family” was nearly the best part of the book though. Picturing Emmett fighting a bear and all the incredulous looks he gives Bella when she has a good idea. Jasper seems so sweet and quiet always trying to keep people calm. Carlisle fighting to be good, to help people and protect his little family. Esme willing to do anything for her family and welcoming Bella with open arms. Rosalie finding true love in Emmett but hating Bella for being human, she is kinda crazy and I worry that she is going to turn evil in later books… And finally Alice! Alice was my favorite character. All the pixie descriptions and how she just seems to flitter about, not to mention she does things her own way. Everyone keeps back so as not to threaten Bella but Alice just runs up and kisses her cheek. Or asks Edward if she and Jasper can have a “bite” of Bella. I loved Alice, her origin story was really sad but she is such a happy, cute character! I hope we get more scenes with her in the rest of the books.
Jacob and his family had so little to do with the book that I didn’t get a real feel for them, but Jacob has the cute little brother/puppy dog thing going so I’m looking forward to more of his story.
Overall, I was so wrong about this series. The lore was great, the sparkling an interesting take on avoiding sunlight, the character dynamics were awesome, and the first person perspective was really well done. It’s a great book if you are into Urban Fantasy and well worth the time spent reading!

If vampires, “20 questions”, or fighting a grizzly bare handed are your kind of thing give Twilight a try. If actually being good at sports is important… Go watch League of Their Own.

Anyone else read Twilight? What did you think? Grab your glitter and join me in the sun?

  1. It’s good to see someone who knows twilight has a bad rep and having such low expectations going into it and then actually enjoying it! Twilight will always be special to me but I was so young when I read them! I kinda want to go through them again as I’m older but don’t really have the time:/ hope you enjoy the rest of the books!

    • It was so much better than I thought it was going to be! And I am super stocked on continuing the series because the author has a different take on the vampires so far and I am curious to see what she does with the wolves. Thanks so much for the comment! And you have to reread them!!!
